TRAVEL & VISA PLAN FOR THE 2011 SEASONWe are in negotiations for an exciting new charter arrangement which may substantially reduce the cost of international travel from “west”. We expect to able to inform of these arrangements by the New Year. Meanwhile we strongly recommend you refrain from finalizing travel arrangements until you he further from us. TRAVEL & VISA PLAN FOR THE 2010 SEASONFor further information contact Ruth@Kharlovka.com or telephone +44 (0)1865 883063 Travel & Hotel Arrangements: We have arranged for Skyways (a subsidiary of SAS Airlines) to charter a SAAB 2000 aircraft to fly on Saturdays between Arlanda (Stockholm) & Murmansk (Russia) for the 2010 season. The flying time is 02:15. All guests have a reservation for Friday night accommodation the day before departure at SkyCity Hotel within Arlanda Airport. There will be a USD1390 charge covering both Friday night hotel and two way flights.
International Travel: Everyone will make their own arrangements to arrive at Arlanda Airport, Stockholm on or before the Friday of each week and for their home departure on Saturday - see Arlanda International Arrivals/Departures. Where possible on the return journey you are advised to allow at least three hours for transfer due to possible late departure from Murmansk. However, all guests must appreciate there can be considerable delays on returning from our camps in the Arctic Tundra through Murmansk Airport such as fog, helicopter delays, airport procedures & baggage handling. It must be clearly understood the company is not in a position to accept responsibility for missed international connections. Airport Accommodation: We will have made block reservations for every guest on the air charter for Friday night accommodation at the SkyCity Radisson Hotel whether they plan to stay there or not. The hotel is located within Stockholm Arlanda Airport complex between Terminals 4 and 5. Following your arrival at your terminal in the airport you will walk to the hotel. Stay inside the buildings and follow the "SkyCity" signs. Just turn up to the front desk at the hotel and show your passport. Extended Accommodation: If you wish to extend your stay before Friday night on the outward journey and on the Saturday or Sunday of your return journey e-mail: reservations.skycity.stockholm@radissonsas.com In order to obtain our special rate you must state that you are traveling with the Atlantic Salmon Reserve (ASR) Program to Murmansk. Of course they can only accept bookings subject to availability. Tickets & Check-In: On Saturday’s passengers should be in Terminal 5 for check-in no later than one hour before departure where they will be issued with their ticket. As Terminal 5 adjoins SkyCity you only need to allow a few minutes for this journey. The Skyways check-in counter will be in the part of the departure hall nearest to SkyCity. Just show your passport and visa and, provided they are in order, they will give you your ticket and check you through. Please arrange with the hotel for a suitable wake up call and remember that a meal will be served on the flight. Missed Flights: If you arrive late and the check in gate is closed telephone us immediately through Victor Koretsky on +7 921 275 9821 and give him your cell number if you have one. If not go quickly back to SkyCity Hotel and call from there. If you miss our charter flight the only way to get to Murmansk is to make your own arrangements via Moscow. Stay calm - It has all happened before. Victor will discuss arrangements to get you to the camps as quickly as possible. If you cannot get Victor try Ruth on +44 7841 288220. Maybe you will want to chat with her anyway. Fishing Rods & Baggage: At both Kharlovka and Rynda we have a large stock of high quality salmon rods (Not reels or trout rods) which you can borrow at any time. If any of you would like to avoid the inconvenience of travelling with a rod case send a note to Ruth@Kharlovka.com. You would be helping the travel process because in a small aircraft hold rod cases are an awkward shape, delay loading and limit other baggage. Baggage Allowance: This is 20 kilos in the hold and 5 kilos carry on of reasonable volume. If you have excess baggage you may be asked to go through last when it will determined whether the aircraft can take the extra weight or whether you will have to leave some things behind for collection on your return. Customs Limits It is important not to bring into Russia more alcohol and tobacco than the legal allowance because it can cause a major hang up at the airport. The allowances are:
Visas: Everyone is responsible for obtaining their own visa. Regulations require that you can only do so within three months of the start of your Russian holiday that must be paid in full. Well before your date of departure we ask you for final payment, your passport and international travel details. We will then send you your "Russian Letter of Invitation" and advice for completing the visa application form which is now downloadable from http://www.rusemblon.org. On completion of the form and you can take these two documents together with one passport photograph to your nearest Russian Embassy who will issue your visa. However, we strongly recommend that you contact your local travel or passport and visa agent and ask them to do it for you. You will be charged according to the speed of service you require (same day or seven day). The above procedure does not always operate smoothly. We strongly recommend using your nearest Passport & Visa Agent. For example an excellent agent in the UK who is familiar with our work is Lisa Carr, Visa Consultants, 5 Crown Place, London, NW5 2JR, telephone 0207 485 5420, fax 0207 485 5420, mobile 07979 740 966 and E-mail lisa@visaconsultants.co.uk. Also, Visa & Passport Service, 1 St. Stephens Mews, London W2 5QZ, telephone 020 7229 4784, fax 020 7229 7656, mobile 07850 426241 and E-mail: visa-passport@btclick.com. The Russian Visa Application form will require you to confirm that you have both travel insurance and medical cover valid in Russia. By booking with us you are undertaking to have such insurance. The "Single Trip Personal Travel Insurance" by Campbell Irvine Limited in London, UK, is recommended by leading UK Sporting Agents. You can obtain this directly by e-mailing anna.ci@netcomuk.co.uk Tel: +44 (0)1737 223687, Fax: +44 (0)1737 224564 or Central London: +44 (0)20 7937 6981. Please double check your passport and visa well before you leave your home country. Remember a passport must be valid for six months after date of planned departure from Russia. Your visa must have your name exactly as it is written in your passport and the dates in your visa must cover your entire visit to Russia. Every year one or two guests are sent back from Murmansk with incorrect visas. These unfortunate situations might well be avoided if everyone sent us a copy of their visa as we request. Communications at Lodges: For the most part our operations are within a "Restricted Military Zone". Under new rules it is forbidden for guests to bring satellite to the camps. Our comprehensive "certified" e-mail and telephone systems will be made available to guests for outgoing communications for which they will be charged. In coming guest communications will be relayed through nriver@nullwar.com or +7 921 275 9821 or Office +7 8152 275 628. Lost Baggage: Our flight will not wait for lost baggage. We suggest you instruct your airline to deliver lost baggage to the SkyCity Hotel to await collection on your return journey. We strongly recommend all guests carry one medium (not large or your airline might put it in the hold) sized hand baggage with vital clothing, washing kit, medicines, cameras and equipment etc. Think carefully about this. We have in camp spare jackets, waders, rods and rough clothes for example so that in emergency you only need your reel, leaders and flies and even these could be supplied. Cash: We recommend travelers to Russia should always carry an emergency cash fund of $1000. In any event you will want to have $150 - $600 available for tips as recommended according to your fishing program. Insurance: You are reminded that Northern Rivers does not provide any form of insurance or refunds/credits. All guests should have adequate arrangements in place to cover their personal circumstances. There are potential dangers and inherent risks in your fishing holiday. You will be living and fishing in the remote wilderness amidst rugged terrain and sometimes wading in fast flowing rivers. In the tundra transport is by Russian helicopters or boats or inflatable dinghies. International travel arrangements and/or your holiday in Russia can be disrupted by adverse weather, regulations by government or military authorities or other factors beyond our control causing you additional travel and accommodation costs and/or termination or cessation of your holiday. The Northern Rivers Company cannot be held responsible for events that may occur. By confirming your booking with us you have accepted that your holiday and associated travel is taken entirely at your own risk. Please refer to About Us for Health & Safety Regulations.
