KHARLOVKA & EASTERN LITZA TROPHY WILD BROWN TROUT FISHING AND THE RYNDA CANOE PROGRAM - 2011 SEASONFor reports on last season: http://www.kharlovka.com/trout_fishing-news.html. Our accredited representatives for applicants to the Wild Brown Trout Program are:
Applicants from countries outside Norway may apply as above or directly to Justin@Kharlovka.com : Tel +441865 883063 Introduction:These programs are part the ASR Conservation Project covering the watersheds of the Kharlovka, Eastern Litza, Rynda & Zolotaya from their source to the sea. It is believed to be the most extensive river protection scheme ever undertaken involving a regular patrols on foot and by helicopter linked by a sophisticated communications system over 750,000 hectares. In the trout areas this extraordinary operation starts by snowmobile in April and continues into October. The general consensus is that the trout population is steadily increasing. Your trout fishing holiday is an integral part of our conservation work. We need your participation by reporting all signs of unauthorized activity and helping to keep the territory where we operate in pristine condition. Everything we do is affected by our understanding of the fragility of this eco-system. It is the last remaining pure tundra in Europe and a precious Russian national asset. As developed over many years we will be taking a limited number of groups to fish from the established trophy camp sites on the Kharlovka & Eastern Litza or by canoeing the prime Rynda trout water identified in the maps below. ![]() Please click once or twice to enlarge. Kharlovka & Eastern Litza:Each week, for 10 weeks, two groups (A & B) will be deployed by MI-8 helicopter to fish the Eastern Litza and Kharlovka systems, generally alternating midweek. Every party will be lead by a Group Leader with proven tundra experience supported by an experienced English speaking Russian guide with 5 paying guests. The schedule is carefully planned to ensure that these ecologically sensitive trout areas are protected, appropriately rested and with due regard to the efficiency of helicopter deployment. For the Kharlovka & Litza Programs each guest is required to bring his/her own fishing gear, rucksack, sleeping bag and mattress. Otherwise all camping gear is provided including utensils, stools, mess tents and individual sleeping tents. Food and non- alcoholic beverages are supplied by us and included in the price. Alcoholic drinks can be purchased at base camp, prior to deployment, as required. Each party will be issued with laminated maps for the areas they will be exploring, a satellite telephone for emergency use only and a GPS location device. Gratuities are not included. We recommend $150 per rod for your guide. Price: 19,000NOK/rod for the holiday starting in Murmansk .![]() Rynda Camping & Canoeing:For 5 weeks, one group will be deployed by MI-8 helicopter to canoe and fish the Upper Rynda over 12 kilometres with various diversions along the way. Generally a party will be lead by a Group Leader with proven tundra and canoeing experience accompanied by a Russian "running boy" with 5 paying guests as a flotilla of 4 Ally Canoes supplied by us. The recommended tip for your guide is US$120/rod. Price: 12,900NOK/rod for the holiday starting in Murmansk. ![]() Pina Camping and CanoeingSimilarly, for 5 weeks it will be possible to fish the Pina by canoe and/or use the tent camp site. We will supply the Ally Canoes. Every party will be lead by a Group Leader with proven tundra experience supported by an experienced English speaking Russian guide with 5 paying guests. The guide will accompany the flotilla in a Zodiac Boat with small engine. In previous years there has been a certain amount of "poaching" at Pina Camp from the rods at Dream Pool Litza but this will now cease. The recommended tip for your guide is US$150/rod. Price: 16,900NOK/rod for the holiday starting in Murmansk. ![]() Kharlovka RaftingThis is our most exciting program, available only to those with rafting experience in fast heavy water. It will be limited to 2/3 friends accompanied by one English speaking Russian guide. The party will start well downstream of Oset at Peter’s Island where this writer landed his first 30+ salmon one August day years ago. I suspect some of you would have been more interested in the many 3Kg+ big trout that are caught in numbers along the main river. Also please note the comments on the map about trout fishing in the tributaries. The fishing opportunities are tremendous. Think in terms of a 12 ft double handed and single handed rods so that you really enjoy the big salmon and trout. All trout programs are fundamental to the ASR Conservation Program. We want you to raft and fish along 30 kilometres finishing at Kharlovka Lodge where we will "grill" you about signs of unusual human activity along with enjoying your stories of great fishing and spectacular wild life sightings. You will become part of the ASR protection team! Of course the guide will have to have considerable expertise; therefore the recommended tip is $250/rod. In special circumstances we will allow three paying guests to raft the Kharlovka with their own Group Leader (without Russian guide) provided he has proven expertise rafting rivers of Kharlovka’s Rafting Grade and everyone in the party agree to take full responsibility by signing a “waiver” in camp. Price: 19,000NOK/rod for the holiday starting in Murmansk. For the Rynda, the Pina and Kharlovka Rafting programs each guest is required to bring his/her own fishing gear, rucksack, sleeping bag, mattress and all camping gear including eating utensils, stools, individual sleeping tents. We will supply small cooker with gas cylinders for each canoe/raft. Food and non- alcoholic beverages are included in the price as requested by the Group Leader. Alcoholic drinks can be purchased at base camp, prior to deployment, as required. Each party will be issued with laminated maps for the areas they will be exploring, a satellite telephone for emergency use only and a GPS location device. The 2011 Weekly Trout Programs![]() BookingsFor the 2011 we will only take bookings by the week for a full team. This means the Group Leader must assemble five paying guests who have all paid a deposit to him or one of our representatives. On receipt of the names and details of the Group Leader and his team together with the five deposits totaling 20,000NOK we will send each member of the group a booking letter confirming receipt of their deposits. Saturday MMK Airport Transfers to and from Tundra CampsEvery Saturday a bus will depart from MMK airport for Tumanyi after the arrival of the international charter flight. From Tumanyi guests will be deployed to the main lodges or tent camps with a midweek changeover all by MI-8 helicopter. On the following Saturday guests will be collected by MI-8 helicopter and taken directly to Tummanyi so that they arrive MMK airport well in time for the outgoing charter flight. Therefore a Friday night stop over in Murmansk is no longer necessary. TravelWe are in negotiations for an exciting new charter arrangement which may substantially reduce the cost of international travel from “west”. We expect to able to inform of these arrangements by the New Year. Meanwhile we strongly recommend you refrain from finalizing travel arrangements until you he further from us. Health & Safety:This is our number one priority and concern. The Russian Guides have absolute authority and will report any difficulties by satellite telephone if they occur. Life jackets will be supplied to all guests where rubber boats or canoes are being used. It is forbidden to float the rivers without wearing them. Comment:The programs will be a true wilderness experience. They are for seasoned anglers only. They are not suitable for people with limited outdoor living experience or those unable to walk for long distances on uneven ground. Everyone participating must enjoy tent camp life, be prepared for periods of mosquitoes and accept responsibility for the dangers sometimes inherent in an adventure holiday over fast water and rugged terrain. There is no guarantee that this or that area will produce an estimated number of fish of a certain size. This is the Arctic, the "Land of the Midnight Sun", with a short 10/12 weeks of summer with dramatic changes in weather conditions and fish activity. It is the "Mecca" of the wild brown trout world. You will be fishing over water containing the finest examples of truly wild brown trout isolated by the ice age.
